This website primarily consists of ancestral information for both myself, Robert Arnold Neugebauer, and my wife, Darlene Ann Schneider. Feel free to use any of this information for your genealogical pursuits.
In 1977 I first started working on our family's genealogy and have accumulated a large amount of data. Much of that information was included in a series of books that I had written. All of that material and much more is now in this website.
The following paragraphs are a brief synopsis of the family lines that are included in this website:
My father was Arnold William Neugebauer. His father, Anton Neugebauer, came to North Dakota from Schlesien, Prussia which is now in southern Poland. Anton married Marie Magdalena Schnoor who was from Schleswig-Holstein which is in northwestern Germany. I have followed both of these German lines as far back as possible. Note that there is a link on the right side of this page which are translations of Marie's letters she received from Germany.
My mother was Hilda Florentine Ghylin. Her father, David Ephraim Ghylin, was born in Wisconsin to a Swedish emigrant family. His wife, Hulda Marie Backman, was born in North Dakota to another Swedish family. I have followed both of these Swedish lines as far back as possible. Sweden has quite extensive vital records dating back hundreds of years.
My wife's father was Mathias John Schneider. His father, John Albinus Schneider, was born in Emmons County, North Dakota to a German/Russian emigrant family. John married Barbara Fischer who also was German/Russian and grew up near her future husband. I have followed both of these lines back through Russia and into the states that later on became Germany.
My wife's mother was Agatha Hilzendeger. Her father, Joseph Hilzendeger, was born in what was Russia but is now Ukraine. He emigrated to North Dakota. His wife, Anna Kuntz, was also born in Russia and emigrated to North Dakota. Research on these lines continues to be ongoing.
There are a few ancillary lines on this website:
ENID ELAINE ERICKSON - my first cousin. Enid has entered data about her father's lines and her husband's lines into this site.
DANIEL JOHN GETZ - our brother-in-law. I did some research on Dan's paternal ancestors in 2011. The data appears in this website.
MATHILDA EMILIA STENHOLM - second wife to my great-grandfather Erik Olsson (Erick Ghylin). There is quite a bit of information about Mathilda's ancestors but less than for Erick's first wife.
LEAH KAYE WAHL - our daughter-in-law. I worked on this project in 2015 and have gotten quite a bit of material. Leah's father is Fredrick John Wahl who is a son of Lawrence "Shorty" Wahl and his wife Ruby Lauer. Leah's mother is Colleen Marie Zottnick who is a daughter of Ernest E. Zottnick and his wife Irene K. Mock.
I continue to slowly accumulate additional data about all of the above lines and have been using original records to a large extent. These supporting documents are mainly entered as pictures when you get to a particular person. I am actively trying to find an obituary, a portrait, and a tombstone photo for each deceased person. This will never be finished but I am somewhat lessening the volume of "unsourced" material that I have in this website. It would have been very unwieldy to acknowledge each and every minor resource that I used although that would be optimal.
This website primarily explores my ancestors and my wife's ancestors. All known direct ancestors and their spouses are included in this website plus their known siblings and their spouses. Recently I have been entering some cousins and their spouses for both my wife and myself. This is an open-ended project so will limit it to some extent.
I note that my original pictures are now in hundreds of other websites. That is very wonderful but please occasionally mention where you got your picture(s).
Recently I found a little blurb about the origin of my last name:
"As a closed market cooperative the farmers of our villages sat together, very seldom only a stranger came into their circle through marriage. He was then called the 'Neue Pauer' and kept this title even though it was 100 years old. This is where the family names derive: Neubauer, Neugebauer, Neuber, Neuwirt and Neumann."
The "useful links" on the right side of this page goes to locations where I have images from a number of my other projects. I wanted to get this into the "cloud" and somehow save some of my life's work.
