About The Davis Pullen Family
Please sign in to see more.
My maternal grandmother was Gertrude Mary Katie Pullen who was born in Staunton,Virgina in 1879 to Albert and Docia Lazenby Pullen. Albert was the son of Thomas and Mary Updike Pullen and Docia was the daughter of Wilson and Lucinda Lazenby. Docia and Albert were married on 1/12/1876 and from that union eleven children were born. My grandmother Gertrude was the third oldest child. Docia died somewhere between 1895 and 1896 and Albert married Annie Bradley between 1899 and 1900. From the union of Albert and Annie nine children were born. Both Albert and Docia had siblings.

My maternal grandfather was Peyton Harris Dennis Davis who was born in Forest, Virginia in 1873 to Edmund and Louisa Alexander Davis. He was the seventh of twelve children born to Edmund and Louisa. Edmund's parents, according to his death certificate, were Edmund and Diliah Davis. I have not been able to locate the parents of Louisa nor have I been able to positively determine whether either one of them had any siblings.

On 12/20/1899 Gertrude and Peyton married and from this union fifteen children were born. Only eleven of them survived infancy. My mother Margaret Roberta Davis was the fourth youngest born child and the youngest surviving daughter.

My paternal grandmother was Norris Esther Clark who was born in 1897 in Washington, DC to Spencer and Annie Penn Clark. From the union of Spencer and Annie, 8 children were born and my grandmother was the third youngest of 8 children. Only 7 survived to adulthood. Spencer's parents were Peter and Caroline Clark according to Spencer's death certificate. Annie's parents were David Penn and Mary Ann Morris Penn. I have been unable to determine whether Spencer had any siblings, however Annie had 3 siblings: Grant, Lorenzo and Rosa Penn.

My paternal grandfather was Holmes Marion Johnson, Sr. who was born in Bolingbroke, Georgia in 1887 to Richard and Annie Stembridge Johnson. I believe my grandfather was the oldest of 3 siblings but only 2 survived infancy. Both Richard and Annie had siblings. Richard’s siblings were George, Clara, Mattie and Rosa. Annie’s siblings were Maggie and Emma.

On 8/4/1917, Holmes and Norris married and to that union 2 sons were born Holmes, Jr. and William Archer Johnson, Sr. (my father).
