About OUR FAMILY
Hinton - Simpson - Burns - Robinson - Thompson - McDonald
We trace the history of our unique family back to the early nineteenth century. Our heritage includes slaves, slave owners, farmers, educators, laborers, artisans and great men and women of business.
 Our history is recorded in family bibles, ancient photographs, public records and other historical documents. It has been passed down from generation to generation over campfires and across kitchen tables. Most importantly, it is forever in our hearts and minds.

This page is maintained by descendants of J. Grant "Papa Grant" Hinton (1871 - 1957). The first branches on OUR FAMILY tree - HINTON, SIMPSON, BURNS, ROBINSON, THOMPSON and MCDONALD - are his family name and those of his spouses and children.

Papa Grant and his ancestors were deeply devoted and dedicated to their God and their families. We, his descendants, endeavor to follow this path as we seek to preserve OUR FAMILY history, traditions and spirit for generations to come.

"Stony the road we trod, bitter the chast'ning rod,
 Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
 Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet,
 Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
 We have come over a way with that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path thro' the blood of the slaughtered, Out of the gloomy past, till now we stand at last
 Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
 Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
 Thou who hast by Thy might, led us into the liht,
 Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
 Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee. Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand.
 True to our God, true to our native land."

And we will ...

"Lift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring.
 Ring with the harmonies of liberty;
 Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies,
 Let is resound loud as the rolling seas.
 Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
 Let us march on till victory is won."

"Lift Every Voice and Sing"
