About My Paterson Ancestry
Please sign in to see more. This Family Tree is constantly being updated.
To get started click on TREE then FAMILY. My record will appear; you can then navigate through my relations or type in a specific name to jump to their record. You can also change the view by choosing ANCESTORS or DESCENDANTS.
On my dad's side the tree includes surnames such as Paterson, Bruce, Forgie, Parker, Pitcairn, Moncrieff, Lyon.
I've discovered links on this side to Robert the Bruce, and through him, links to the early Princes of Wales; Kings of Ireland; Saxon Kings and even Charlemagne. Other famous ancestors are: the early Lairds of Pitcairn, Robert Pitcairn - Queen Elizabeth I's secretary of State for Scotland and Rev Alexander Moncrieff who led the Seccession from the Established Church. His distant cousins are the Pattisons of Kelvingrove and the Scott-Moncrieffs, famous in literature. Rev Moncrieff's wife, Jean Lyon is descended from the Lyon's of Glamis - also ancestors of The Queen Mother. I've also just established links from this family to George W Bush. Less celebrated cousins were weavers, labourers, and sausage makers. Dad's ancestors originated in Fife and Dumfries and migrated via Rothesay to Glasgow where the Patersons remain today.
Mum's tree is more difficult to trace beyond 1800 due to Irish ancestry. Names on this side include Morrison, Bogan, Quin, Stevenson and Clark. The Bogans originated in Ireland and moved to New Monklands, probably arond the tie of the potato famine in the 1840s where many remain today. The Morrisons also came over from Ireland and ended up in Glasgow via Blantyre.
Both sets of families migrated to the dear green place in search of work.
I hope you enjoy reviewing the Tree and photos. Special thanks go to Bill Watson, Val Watkinson and the McCanns for supplying photos and all my other contacts made via the internet.

1. Please be aware that this website software removes tags such as "AFT" which means some birth / death dates that I list as approximate eg "After 1891" appear to read as actual dates eg "1891"
