About PEI, NB and NS Lineages
This site is the extensions of the Family of Ewen Ross (1755) and Nancy Gillies (1756) of Kilmuir, Isle of Skye, Scotland. It seems there are varying stories surrounding Ewen Ross, but the only thing for sure is his death being prior to 1803 when his wife Nancy Gillies Ross and all of her children but one left the parish of Kilmuir on Isle of Skye in Scotland and sailed on the Polly for Prince Edward Island. The following are the children who came to PEI with their mother 5 sons Donald, John B., Hugh (Ewen), Angus and Murdoch. The three daughters that also accompanied the mother were Ann, Flora and an unknown female Ross that married a Peter MacDonald believed to be from Rose Valley which at that time was known as Lot#67 in PEI. Catherine was the daughter who remained on the Isle of Skye and she married a Samuel Martin of Isle of Skye. An interesting bit of "Folklore" about this voyage is the fact that there was a stop over in Halifax Harbour (Nova Scotia-Canada) by the Polly before sailing on to PEI. It was here in Halifax harbour aboard the Polly that John B. Ross married Mary Nicholson also from the Isle. Well like I said "Folklore about the stopover, the "Polly" never did go to Halifax, while on route to Orwell Bay, PEI in 1803, but yes they were married at some point. She was the daughter of Old Donald Nicholson of Flodigarry, Isle of Skye, who also immigrated to PEI aboard the Polly. He was a schoolmaster and settled in Orwell,PEI. Donald Nicholson was a School Master on Skye, and for this reason, Lord Selkirk encouraged him to emigrate, granting him 100 acres of land free on Prince Edward Island for doing so. In PEI, he was known locally as "Old Donald" to distinguish him from "Young Donald" the son of John Nicholson and Jane Martin, also emigrants on the Polly in 1803. Lord Selkirk gave them adjoining farms in PEI, a practice he generally did with brothers. I will be doing some editing and some additions to this site as time goes on, so anyone visiting this site that sees a mistake or has further info on any of the lineages that I have entered, would you please message me and sign my guestbook even if it is just a shot in the dark. I have used names such as M'Eachern, in place of MacEachern or McEachern to make research easier and that follows suit for all Mc and Mac variations. I have also used common names such as Weatherby for both this spelling and Weatherbie; this also follows suit for various common names ( I am currently changing names with Mac and Mc to their corrective spellings and I am also correcting various name spellings, such as Weatherby and Weatherbie, when I can. Some names are under the previosly mentioned formats when I am unsure of the correct spelling )

ps - If you notice a name that says the person is still living it could be an entry level mistake or possibly that person has since died: Also if you see a person listed as Died, I probably entered it wrong if they are still living, In any case please email or leave message in my guestbook -Thanks Again

In closing, here is a genealogy poem I came across in one of my searches :

THE STORY TELLERS

Unknown

We are the chosen, in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were by our genes.

Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say.

It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who I am and why do I do the things I do?

It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying 'I can't let this happen'. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh.

It goes to doing something about it.

It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today.

It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family.

It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation.

It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for Us; that we might be born who we are; that we might remember them.

So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
