This is the genealogy of the
Barry/Cahill/Scanlan/Buckley/Cotter/Walsh
et al family, mainly from Cork city,
Cork county, Co. Meath, Co. Cavan and
Dublin, the United States, Canada and New Zealand.
As it grows, it will include the families
and their in-laws.
The most famous person in the tree is
James V. Forrestal, co-author of Lend-
Lease and the Marshall
Plan, assistant Secretary of the Navy and
Secretary of the Navy during the Second
World War and who
became the first Secretary of Defense, in
the Government of the United States in
1947. He was a
grand-nephew of John (the grey) Barry;
the man who voted against Papal
infallibility during the first Vatican
Council, Archbishop John
MacHale of Tuam;
the ancestors and descendants of Lady
Gregory, founder of the Abbey theatre,
i.e. Freddie White,
singer and songwriter.
Also here is David Gillick, the double
European indoor Champion at 400 metres.
(2005,2007).
Mostly, the people in this family tree are
the men and women who work and play in
this world to keep
it, and themselves, ticking over.
