The Stern family traces back to a small church in Retterath, Trier, Germany.
The church of Retterath had records in regard to a death of a family member in
Minnesota which verified the connection. This family immigrated to Minnesota in 1852
and has resided mainly in Stearns County, Minnesota. They left one child behind, a
son of about 3 years old named Johann Peter. He would've been the eldest to carry on
the family name and maybe was too young to travel at that time. We have wondered if
he joined the family at a later date, but have not found any evidence.
The Gysberg and van Kerkhof families have been included as they represent my maternal
grandparents. The family originated in the Netherlands. They corresponded with
family members that owned a bakery there. The original name of Gijsbers was translated to the
spelling of Gysberg when the family immigrated to the United States.
The research for this tree has been going on for 20 plus years. A special thanks goes
to my mother, Loraine, who had the determination to dig through old records before the
time of computers and was a sleuth in regard to family pictures. Without her, much of
the information would have remained unlabeled in boxes under the bed.
There are quite a few photographs and links to the original sources. These were
obtained through the generosity of family members. Please do not copy information and
distribute it on the world wide web without permission. We have already had a case
where someone has taken a picture and then made an error when labeling it. This is
impossible to correct and one of the reasons the site is password protected. However
I'm very willing to share information with family members. Please do
contact me if you think you are connected in some way. It is easy to obtain a password
and I would love to hear from you. Also, if there are any errors please let me know.
I made this site in order to share information with family members and meet new
members.
