Climbing The Family Tree
~ ~ ~

I began my quest with a twinge of curiosity, To explore my roots, to reveal my family tree. My search began with names, lines of work, and fading memories. I researched land records, newspaper articles and family diaries. Gathering keepsakes and portraits, I began to see My lineage could be traced to a voyage across the sea. I became eager to uncover my family history.
Would I find details about their ways? How did my ancestors spend their days? Family heritage and birthright unveiled, Learning from where and whence my ancestors hailed. I traced back to the time of this nation's design, Following to its origin my paternal family line. These sacred bonds are yours as well as mine.
One day I'll be an ancestor gone before. So I decided to record this bit of lore. There is no need to fret about the family bloodline. Each family member has a mountain to climb. Family heritage is worth more than gold. Keep our history. Let our story be told. This is who we are, how our kindreds unfold.

The Whipkey Puzzle

In the year 2003 with the help of Nana (my Swedish friend in Texas), Jim Whipkey & Doug Miller (a Whipkey descendant) we have been able to link our OKLAHOMA WHIPKEY ANCESTORS to Johann Jacob (Hipge) WHIPKEY the pioneer and founder of the Whipkey family here in the United States. He originated from Weissembourg, Alsace, Germany in an area of land fought over and disputed by Germany and France. He crossed the Atlantic and arrived in America at the port of Philadelphia in 1752.

My mom's brother has been researching our ancestors for several years. When I became interested he gave me the book written by Jean (Dobson) Sellers about our DOBSON ANCESTORS. Richard Dobson Several Dobson families appear in the records of Yorkshire, England, as far back as the early 16th century. None of them have any apparent connection to earliest ancestor of that name, Richard Dobson of Redcar in the North Riding. He was born circa 1680, but no record of his parentage has yet been found. One long-standing theory suggests that he was a Huguenot, and that the Dobson name was derived from the French d'Aubison or d'Aubigney. No definitive evidence has yet been found to support this theory.
Nana has joked with my husband that if we could prove that we went back to Noah that he would have'our rain boots bronzed'. Well, Dick we have found our 'Noah'. Noah HUMBLE b: abt 1760/1765 married to Catherine CAIN b:abt 1769/1771. Nana felt that Cain WHIPKEY might have been named for an ancestor with the last name of CAIN and she was able to prove it. So another 'Thank You' to Nana.

In my search for documentation for the DAR, Janet Pease has guided me in where and what to request from the LDS Family History Center. Recently she began work on a long time project ....abstracting all Bourbon Co., Ky marriage bonds, consents and marriage register entries. Janet mailed me a copy of the marriage bond for Noah Humble and Catherine "Cane", with a consent from James Cain for the marriage of his daughter Catherine....dated July 23, 1787 To Janet Pease a special Thank You.

My thanks to all of my internet friends and cousins who have given me encouragement and have been willing to share their information with me.
