About My Bowers family
Please sign in to see more.
Like many others, I did not become interested in genealogy until many of my elders began dying. When I started looking, I found that several of the stories I heard in my youth were not always true. One was that my mother's family was Irish. As it turned out, her family did come from Northern Ireland, but were Scottish. They had a long and interesting history dating to the Third Crusade. I then set a goal of learning the nationality of each branch of my family. What I did not expect was the difficulty that that would be. I also did not know that I would come into contact with so many cousins and helpful researchers. For example, I got in touch with a group researching Levi Bowers in Washington Co., TN. It turned out that that branch was unrelated to my Bowerses, but I learned that one of that group was related to my Tibbitses. She helped me break through the "brick wall" I had encountered in Elbert Co., GA, providing the key that allowed me to trace Thomas Tibbits back to Rhode Island and his family on to England. My kids ask me why I'm interested in dead people. They do not realize that genealogy is addictive and not unlike solving a difficult puzzle or a good mystery. I am currently researching the following lines: Bowers, Hudson, Moore, Colley, Peters and Boyd.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
