About My Bowers family
Please sign in to see more. Like many others, I did not become interested in genealogy until many of my elders began dying. When I started looking, I found that several of the stories I heard in my youth were not always true. One was that my mother's family was Irish. As it turned out, her family did come from Northern Ireland, but were Scottish. They had a long and interesting history dating to the Third Crusade. I then set a goal of learning the nationality of each branch of my family. What I did not expect was the difficulty that that would be. I also did not know that I would come into contact with so many cousins and helpful researchers. For example, I got in touch with a group researching Levi Bowers in Washington Co., TN. It turned out that that branch was unrelated to my Bowerses, but I learned that one of that group was related to my Tibbitses. She helped me break through the "brick wall" I had encountered in Elbert Co., GA, providing the key that allowed me to trace Thomas Tibbits back to Rhode Island and his family on to England. My kids ask me why I'm interested in dead people. They do not realize that genealogy is addictive and not unlike solving a difficult puzzle or a good mystery. I am currently researching the following lines: Bowers, Hudson, Moore, Colley, Peters and Boyd.
