Hello there!

My name is Rachel Chisholm, and this is an attempt to put my family tree on-line for others to see, comment on and perhaps assist in developing. My mum and I, (another Rachel Chisholm, though Rachel Aitken by birth) have been researching our tree for some years now.

We've traced Aitkens as far back as the mid 1600s, living in Ayrshire with nautical and shoe-making roots. We've traced Chisholms from Lanarkshire to Inverness and points in between as far back as the late 1700s.

Our research has taken us to many parts of Britain and Ireland, where we could be found trailing through graveyards, camera in hand, attempting NOT to join our ancestors in the subsiding ground on which many a heavy stone is laid.

We have spent hours on the web, tracing relatives through census, bmd and other records. Fortunately, this is fairly accessible today, and with greater download speeds, a much preferred option to the graveyard search!

Today, as we begin 2021, we have added a book in pdf format to this website. It is entitled The Shoemaker's Bairns and can be found in a link from the main menu under media and file. Enjoy!
