Grand Father Andrze Bartnicki was born in 1882 and resided in Plawy, Oswiecim County Poland.  He  emigrated to the United States, departing Europe aboard the ship Blucher, from Hamburg, Germany  and arrived at Ellis Island, New York on March 12, 1903.  He settled in the Detroit, Michigan  area, found work and saved enough money to send for his beloved.  As the story has been told, when  he met the ship in Philadelpia, his beloved's family sent not her, but her older sister.  Can you  imagine how Andrze felt when, coming off the ship was not the women he loved, but her older  sister.  He must have realized that this was what was to happen.  He did the honorable thing,  married Bronislawa Herud and raised a family of honorable men and women.
