About Altman/Zeitz/O'Neal/Lewis
Please sign in to see more.
This tree was uploaded in 2010, but I started it a few years earlier using the "Legacy 7" software. Additions and corrections have been added on a nearly constant basis.

My Altman ancestors arrived in Philadelphia in Sept. 1742 on the ship Phoenix. They came from the area of Herbitzheim in the Alsace-Lorrain region of what is now France. If you know your history, you know that region was once German territory. My earliest ancestor to immigrate was George Soule (on my mother's Ketchum side), who was an indentured servant on the Mayflower and a signer of the Mayflower Compact.

My Zeitz ancestors immigrated shortly after the Civil War, coming from the Dresden area of Germany and also from Prussia. I've also included a Zeitz branch which stayed in Germany. I've not been able to prove a connection, yet, but they come from the same area as "my" Zeitz ancestors and I feel very strongly that there's a familial connection. For that branch, I'm deeply indebted to "cousin" Gerda Zeitz in Bonn, Germany. She's done much research in various churches in an attempt to confirm a connection. We're sure one is there...we just haven't been able to find it.

This tree is also about the family of my wife, Nancy O'Neal/Altman and her maternal line of Lewis ancestors. Thanks to the decades-long work of one of her uncles, we have much information on her O'Neal ancestors. The Lewis's are another matter. We're still trying to batter through a brick wall surrounding information on any of "her" Lewis's beyond her G-Grandfather. But we're not giving up. Isn't genealogy fun?

Enjoy your trip through the site and, if you have any corrections or additions please email me at jondalar88@yahoo.com or leave a comment in the Guest Book.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
