About  Hansell family of Lythe & Whitby,Yorkshire
Although Parish Records exist to show that Hansells were living in Ingleby Greenhow in 1538 & later in nearby Stokesley & Guisborough there is no written evidence to link them to Lythe & Whitby . However , there were Hansells at Loftus in 1673 (Hearth Tax Returns).
Loftus parish registers do not start until 1699 but bishops transcripts exist back beyond 1660's. There is a marriage of Thomas Hansell & Ann Foster 2 Nov 1677 & children baptised & buried up to 1695 , then no more . Thomas lived at Waupley in Loftus Parish. The first reference to Hansells at Lythe is the 1692 marriage of Robert Hansell (on bishops transcript only). A Thomas Hansell appears in 1696 . This Thomas was bur at Lythe 1736 & wife Ann in 1734.I believe they were the couple who married at Loftus 2 Nov 1677.
I believe there must be a link between the Hansells of Loftus & Lythe . As Loftus is about half way between Guisborough & Whitby it seems to me that Hansells of Lythe had origins in Ingleby Greenhow .
I previously made reference to a family of John Hansell at Roxby near Hinderwell. These were recorded on Find My Past website but I have since discovered they are NOT of Roxby but refer to Scruton Parish near Bedale. I will ask Find My Past to put their records right !
