About My Welsh Family - The Pughs of Penygraig
Please sign in to see more. This is my story of the Pughe-Morgan family and the wider Pugh family from which it emerged. It begins in 1678 with the birth of Evan Pugh of Devil's Bridge, Aberystwyth, my great great great great great great (6Gs) grandfather. The key figures include his grandson, Humphrey Pugh of Penygraig, and four brothers among Humphrey's children, Evan Pugh of Eglwysfach, Enoch Pugh of Cwmnewydion, Lewis Pugh of Aberystwyth and David Pugh of Penygraig.
Among their many descendants are their grandchildren, John Pughe-Morgan, George Augustus Pugh and David Pugh of Loves Grove, who were second cousins. My own grandparents, Theo Pughe-Morgan and Winnie Pugh, were third cousins descended respectively from Evan and Enoch, and this wasn't the only third cousin marriage.
Another notable feature of my family is the extraordinarily large number of relatives who were ordained into the Anglican Church, including my father, grandfather, both great grandfathers and a host of others. As a son of the vicarage, I count myself among the sinners rather than the saints, but it's reassuring to know that so many of God's warriors are on my side!
Among other extended family members, there are included doctors, architects and engineers for some of the national landmarks, as well as one branch of the family that produced a group of military folk and lawyers. There are also a great number of people who lived ordinary lives, butchers, bakers, grocers, publicans, farmers, being born, marrying, working hard to support their families, dying (sometimes appallingly young!). Family life comes in all shapes and sizes, and I'm proud to be part of it.
I have included the contents page below from my separate storyline of my family. This is to help give you a clue to relationships and steer you round the website - long strings of names on their own can look either extremely boring or intimidating! I have included extracts at relevant points in the family tree, and I have also included the introduction from my storyline as a full footnote to my own entry.
If you would like a full copy of my storyline in MS Word, please let me know, and I'll be happy to send you one.
Please do leave your name in my guest book, and I'll be happy to pay a return visit to your website, if you have one.
