This family tree is dedicated my ancestors and future family members to give them a sense of where they came from on this great planet. The surnames have changed over the centuries eg. Russell was orignally Roussel-Rouxel,from St. Evran, Bretagne, France and emmigrated to Riviere-Ouelle, Kamouraska, Quebec,
Canada this name changed after Louis Roussel moved his family to the New England, USA.
Francios Billet also emmigrated from France, he came to the USA to fight in the American Revoloution, and fought with the Continetal troops and is recorded in the New
Hampshire army muster rolls. Francios's name was also changed in the USA to Blake, and
after the American Revolution he emigrated to Canada and settled in Murray Township near Trenton Ontario. Francios' daughters are members of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the USA, while his Wife's family were Registered United Empire Loyalsts. Many of the Blake Family now live in the Campbellford, Ontario, area. My father, Dean Russell broke the Canadian French tradition,of marrying only French Canadian decendants, when as a USA citizen, he joined the Canadian Army in WW2 and served in Europe.
He was sent to Peterborough Ontario for boot camp, where he met my mother, Jean Hewie. When he returned from overseas after the war he married Jean Hewie, he was the first Russell male ever to marry a person who was not French Canadian. The Hewie family, emigrated from Roxborough, Scotland around 1841, and settled in Otonabee Township, Ontario, Canada. I now live two roads over from their original farm, and I once owned a farm on the same road, Blezard Line. Some of the Hewie's moved to Fenelon Townsip, Victoria County, but most stayed in the Peterborough area. I would like to thank Jane Bryant for her contribution on the Billet-Blake family line and to Gilles Masse for his contribution on the Russell-Roussel family line.
