About McLean/Fletcher Family
Please sign in to see more.
The motivation for starting this family history came from a desire to investigate the death of John James McLean outside Amiens, France in 1917. The circumstances surrounding this death had been a mystery within the family since that time. Once this research was complete the objective changed to that of trying to locate the first member of each side of the McLeans and Fletchers to migrate to Australia and detail the circumstances surrounding their decision to undertake such a journey, or in some cases why the decision was made for them. With a few exceptions this has now been accomplished.
On the McLean side this lead to the Isle of Skye in Scotland, Ballymore in Ireland, Kragero in Norway and Neider Weisel in Germany.
On the Fletcher side to Wakefield in Yorkshire, Lanarksire in Scotland, Gwennap in Cornwall and Eccles in Lancashire.
However it did not stop there. As Genealogists will attest, one thing leads to another; a new mystery arises and just has to be pursued.

There are far too many organisations and people who have assisted in the formation of this family history to name each one, and I would not like to miss anyone. However I would particularly like to recognise the contributions of W. B. (Bill) Clarke, the author of 'Araminta' emigrant ship 1852 and Kelvin Williams for his research on Neider Weisel. It was Bill Clarke who gave me the full story of the circumstances surrounding the first McLeans migration to Australia from Skye. It was the late Kelvin Williams who was responsible for the research behind the excellent website "The Neider Weisel Story"; detailing Katharina Haub's journey to the Goldfields of Victoria.

This tree is still a work in progress, both in terms of being added too, and corrected. I would appreciate any suggestions, corrections and request they be placed in my Guestbook.
