About Holladay and Sperry Families
Please sign in to see more.
English, Scottish, Irish, and German.........The Sperry and Holladay Families. Holladays we know have been here in the states a good long while coming from England, though history tells us they were Irish and Scott-Irish. Sperry's the maternal side of the story is German, though how long their story has evolved here in the states is currently not known.

We know many Holladay men serve in the military and the families are spread across the country in many directions. Many began in the frontiers. One earned the nickname of Frontier John another Ben Holladay, was referred to as the Stage Coach King. AND YES, there is really a DOC HOLLADAY. In fact, there are several. One is Lena who doctored in Hillsboro near the old family farm for many years, and one in Lima, and., a third is Bruce Holladay in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky....well take a look at the family tree and find out for yourself.

We know the Sperry's ventured to Ohio from Virginia, that at least one family member, Peter Sperry fought in The Revolution. It looks like many of the Sperry men served in various wars, and were active in the military. We've had wonderful luck finding Sperry gravesites. The family is quite large, and owned a plantation in Virginia. Several family members in Ohio were tanners by trade. The search for the story continues. Stayed tuned. Have just recently been able to add all the older Sperry information from the "lost" file. And have added quite a bit of new information from new research.

Likewise, The Lacey's have a story to tell us. The Lacey's appear to be Welsh in origin. The family seems quite large. The Sperry's and Lacey's are on the maternal side of my husband's family. The Holladays and Martins are on the paternal side of my husbands family. In the past month or so (June and July of 2021), I've begun to add people and information from research of The Martins and The Lacey's. I'm certain, I've only scratched the service with regard to these large families. And Martin, such a common name; believe it will be a bit tedious.

Many hours spent in graveyards, and at libraries. Much of the family data has been gathered by collecting obituaries, death certificates, marriage and cemetery indexes, as well a family bible. Lots of microfilm has been viewed of old newspapers and some articles shed light on the stories of some of our ancestors. In more recent years I've used Find A Grave, Family Search, Ancestry.com, and newspapers.com to advance the research. Some information/documentation such as pictures of people, stones, and obituaries have been obtained from these sites as well. Many thanks for the ability to do that, with other researchers sharing their information.

Contact with Holladay Cousins has been both rewarding and helpful, SPECIAL THANKS to Harry Holladay for info and pictures of many from the Russell Bigelow branch, and to Robert Holladay for inspiration on the Thomas Corwin branch, and Alvis Milton Holladay, Sr. and his book on Holladay's. Some information comes from shared data (some of which is documented, and some is not). I've spent time at The Ohio Historical Library, The State of Ohio Library, and The Hillsboro Library.

Also, special THANKS go out to a Sperry internet cousin, Liz whom I've enjoyed sharing information and pictures with. AND hope to be able to reconnect.

Found another Sperry cousin, even a first cousin folks, how's that!! Marie descends from my mother-in-law's brother's branch. Gotta love the internet. We're having fun getting acquainted and sharing info. Thanks loads Marie for the wonderful family photo's. Like Liz above, the need to find each other again exists.

I've not yet had the pleasure of connecting with a Martin or Lacey cousin, but sure hope that happens.
