About Cumberland Roots
The Emmerson surname is a "County Durham" surname. Weardale in County Durham, seems to to be where my ancestors originated from.

The surname EMMERSON or (Emerson) is derived from Aimeric / Aimerick / Haimerico / Emericus. Emmerson, like other 'son' names is only to be found in the parts of britain colonized by the Danes and Norsmen.

The main couple in the "Cumberland Emmerson Family" are John Emmerson (1773) and Isabella Clemitson (1777)
Their tombstone is in Thursby Churchyard, and in fair condition.

My name is John A Emmerson, i am a retired health care professional.

Since retirement i have taken up Genealogy and Local History as a hobby. I am lucky in that most of my relatives are in a Churchyard near me. Burgh By Sands, Great Orton , Kirkbride, Newton Arlosh, Thursby, Crosby on Eden, Kirkbampton, and Warwick on Eden, Church yards.

Family Names, are Emmerson, Todd, Steel, Jardine, Long, Coulthard, Warwick, Bell, Wilson, Briggs, Irving, to name a few.
Most of the family have been in the North cumbria, Southwest Scotland, Solway Coast area for 300 years at least.

Some "Border Reiver" Names. Armstrong, Graham, Bell, Wilson, and others.

I am interested in the Warwick family of Wetheral, Cumberland and any links to the Ancient family of Warwick of "Warwick Hall". ( Guy Warwick and Mary Fidler ).

Guy Warwick,s daughter Elizabeth married a George Steel, my mothers, Gr,Gr,Gr, Grandfather.

The last MAIN direct male heir Francis Warwick died in 1772 without issue.

    Who was Ann Bell.

Ann Bell died in 1858 at 26 Gibson St, Newcastle on Tyne. of Typhoid Fever. She was married to a John Emmerson 1831.
John then returned to Cumberland and married a Dorothy Wilson.

Anyone with any Emmerson Cumbria connections please get in touch.

Thanks to all in the USA and Canada and even Australia !
