About The Briggs Family
Please sign in to see more.
This history begins James Y Briggs and his wife Martha Margaret Shockley, so far we have not been able to locate the parents of James Y Briggs, but we are still working on that. James was born in Tennessee in 1804 and married Martha Shockley in 1827 in Missouri. She was also born in Tennessee.

They were the parents of seven children, Sharilda, Zylphia, John Burr, Scott Terry, Mary Minerva, Daniel Boone, and James Lafeyette, they seemed to settle in Maries County Missouri, then they moved to Rolla Mo area where James tried to go into the army, but couldn't because of his age. He went to work for the Railway and meet with some sort of industrial accident and died of his injuries July 5 1860 and is buried in Rolla Cemtery, Martha died in 1883 and is buried in the Vieana Mo along with several of their children.

Our primary focus on this history is though John Burr and his son Stephen Gerome and their descendents, however we will add any information we find on any of the family.
