** Note to others researching their family trees:
This Copley Family tree is a work in progress and mainly created
so that members of our family can view it and help to develop it into an
accurate family history. If you are looking to expand upon your own
research, just be aware that very much of the information here has yet to be
properly verified. You may use info you find here as a "stepping
stone" in your own research but please do not assume it is fact. If you
can actually help to verify any of the info, get in touch. Thanks!!
I would like to thank all the distant cousins who have been in touch and who
have added info for their family lines. If you don't see an addition or change
yet, I'm still working on it.
~Thanks again!

Notes of Interest:
* The main Surnames that will be represented here are
Copley and Kirk on my Father's side,
Pennington and Porter on my Mother's side
and Walser for my Husband's family.
* Some of the minor Surnames are Damron, Duncan, Emmons,
Johnson, Marcum, Maynard, Muncy, Napier,
Southern and Underwood.
* The Copley and Kirk ancestors are centered in the VA, WV and KY areas.
* The Walser roots are all in Southern Germany.
* The Revolutionary War was from 1775-1783.
* The Civil War was from 1861-1865.
* WV became a state June 1863 after splitting off from VA during the civil war.
For that reason, many of our relatives were born in VA but died in WV.
* Many of the county borders changed as well. Examples: Martin Co. KY was
formed in 1870 from portions of Floyd, Johnson, Pike and Lawrence counties.
Johnson county was formed in 1843 from part of Floyd Co. And Pike
county was formed in 1821 also from a portion of Floyd Co. In some cases, it
could have been migrating borders and not migrating ancestors! ;-)
