About  VAUGHN ANCESTRY & ALLIED FAMILIES
Vaughan / Vaughn

The name Vaughan in Ireland is derived from either Welsh settlers who arrived into the country in the seventeenth century or from native Gaelic Septs that adopted Vaughan as the anglicized version of their name. The O'Beachain Sept from County Clare was one such Sept who did this as was the O'Mochain Sept of County Kilkenny who more usually anglicized their name as Moghan or Moughan.

Vaughan Surname Origin
(Origin Welsh) The same as Bychan or Vychan, little, small in stature

Motto: Translated from its original Welsh, the Vaughn family motto is: "I will not return unrevenged."

Researching my husband's ancestry has been rich & rewarding. Several second cousins had began the Vaughn reseach the same time I had. We met one another in our research and fast became family in our hearts & lives. The Vaughn Family data is a collaboration of combined work Dorothy 'Scottie' Vaughn Craig , David Wooley, Phyliss Vaughn Cooper & myself. David has gone on ahead of us to his Heavenly reward, he & his wife Maxine traveled far & near in family research, & contributed so much in time & expense as has Scottie. I have learned so much from them as research 'prove it'.

Scottie and my husband Marshall organized our Vaughn cousins campout beginning in Ohio & now General Butler State Park in Kentucky, beginning in 2000. Many wonderful memories have been made & new memories in the making the Good Lord willing. Precious family have gone on to the great campground in the sky, Mickey Craig, Herb Noel & David, they are greatly missed especially Mick's pranks. Our Vaughn Reunions at the Garden, Uncle Merl & Aunt Mollie Vaughns, place is always the big event of the year, and many sweet souls have gone ahead of us whose memories are treasured in our hearts . You will never find a more loving & generous family, I'm not blood related but heart related, and so thankful, it is a wonderful, continual, colorful journey. This is dedicated to those past & present who have left & leave loving imprints in our hearts.

Having no information than Washington, Marion & Casey Counties KY on our VAUGHN family, I had almost given up on learning more. I have also been researching my family tree since 1990 and learned of a wonderful genealoical library, in Shelby Co IN, almost at our back door. While reseaching my line I though I would try to learn if any data on the Vaughn line, and wonder of wonders there were files of the Vaughn lineage from Washingtom, Marion & Casey Co KY that settled in Shelby Co IN our neighboring county. Whose beginnings in America were Virginia. Herbert & Katherine Elliott 1963, 'The History of Shelby County, Gregory Family Ancestry by Mary Frances Danielson. The Gregory & Vaughn Family intermarried and much information on our Vaughn family is found here. Living Booklet of VAUGHN [A] & Kin Research by Louise Vaughn Hoskins, provided by Mary Clyde Wilson Bettge who is descended from Dicey Vaughn Wilson. Thank you to family who helped with information, photos, encouragement.
