About The House That Built Me
Hunt & Butler and Tillman & Pierce Families.
I am a descendant of Hunt & Butler line through my mother and of Tillman & Pierce line through my father. Also included are individuals from Mastin & Holbert families of my husband's ancestors to provide information for my daughter. For the Butler and Hunt families, a wealth of information was passed down from my Grandmother (Loie 'Ione' Butler Hunt) and her Sister (Alice Butler Bradshaw) through books they wrote of family history. My research has been done through Ancestry.com, Familysearch.org, Find-A-Grave, and collaboration with other family and DNA matches who have come to be known to me. Notable Ancestors ...
  • James B. Hickock (Wild Bill Hickock) - James Butler Hickok, better known as "Wild Bill" Hickok, was a folk hero of the American Old West known for his work across the frontier as a drover, wagon master, soldier, spy, scout, lawman, gunfighter, gambler, showman, and actor. (Individuals flagged with Aqua marks on profile pages are related by blood to James B. Hickock)
  • Presidents George H W Bush and George W Bush. (Individuals flagged with Lime marks on profile pages are related by blood to both Presidents Bush)
  • General Benjamin Butler - politician, lawyer and businessman from Massachusetts. Born in New Hampshire and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, Butler is best known as a political major general of the Union Army during the American Civil War, and for his leadership role in the impeachment of U.S. President Andrew Johnson. He was a colorful and often controversial figure on the national stage and in the Massachusetts political scene, during his one term as Governor (Individuals flagged with Yellow marks on profile are related by blood to Benjamin Butler)
  • Deliverance Haseltine. According to life sketch found on Familysearch.org, “Deliverance was one of several members of the family of (her father-in-law) Reverend Francis Dane who were involved in the Salem Witch Trials. Deliverance was arrested and questioned. She confessed and implicated Francis, though he was never arrested or tried. Unfortunately, the records of her arrest and examinations have been lost. Deliverance and her husband Nathaniel were used as characters in the fictionalized account of the trials found in Katherine Howes novel The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, though the story in the novel does not match the known details of Deliverance's life.” (Individuals flagged with White marks on profile pages are related by blood to Deliverance Haseltine)
This website includes stories, special notes on individuals, photographs, copies of ship manifests, and copies of census records, birth & death dates, and burial information. Citations shown at the bottom of profiles has been used to further identify individuals in my husband’s bloodline down through my daughter. The citation is shown as "Mastin-Pfuntner & Holbert-Burns.” Other citations have been included on all profiles to note and validate where information was found during research of each individual. Colored markers can be seen on each individual's profile page designating the bloodline they belong to. Some common surnames such as “Hunt” and “Pierce” exist in separate bloodlines connected by marriage but not by blood. I have attempted to designate individuals, by color, as to which bloodline they are descended from. There is a color key shown at the bottom of each profile showing who the original ancestor is and follows each of their descendant through the tree. The color codes description for showing bloodlines (including notable ancestors) and who individuals are descended from is as follows:
  • Purple represents Hunt ancestors (of Tillman-Pierce line),
  • Red represents Hunt ancestors (of Hunt-Butler line),
  • Blue represents Pearce/Pierce ancestors (of Tillman-Pierce line),
  • Green and Olive represents Hunt and Pierce ancestors from Holbert-Mastin bloodline.
  • Aqua represents individuals related to Wild Bill Hickock by blood.
  • Lime Green represents individuals related to Presidents Bush by blood.
  • Yellow represents individuals related to General Benjamin Butler by blood.
  • White represents individuals related to Deliverance Haseltine (Dane).
Many thanks to Susanna Bradshaw, Jenny Hunt Ray, Jackie Tillman Crocker, Susan Hoose, and Lorraine Schroeder Layton for collaboration and sharing of information for this family tree. Thanks to Gene Mastin for research done on the Mastin-Holbert families. NOTES: The first census began more than a year after the inauguration of President Washington and shortly before the second session of the first Congress ended. Congress assigned responsibility for the 1790 census to the marshals of the U.S. judicial districts under an act which, with minor modifications and extensions, governed census taking through 1840. The law required that every household be visited, that completed census schedules be posted in "two of the most public places within [each jurisdiction], there to remain for the inspection of all concerned..." and that "the aggregate amount of each description of persons" for every district be transmitted to the president. For more on census years and overviews go to Census.gov Early ship passenger lists, known generally as “customs manifests,” was not regulated. Formats varied widely and a specific place of origin was not always listed. In 1883, the federal government mandated the creation of ship manifests, which included columns for an exact birthplace or last residence. This information was also kept on passenger arrival lists of later periods.. The lists consist of large sheets of paper divided into columns and rows. Earlier lists are handwritten, while most after 1917 are typewritten. Lists after 1906 usually occupy two pages. These collections also include a card index to passengers arriving in New York City from 1820 through 1846. Passenger arrival lists known as customs manifests date back to 1820. However, the first official emigration station for New York was Castle Garden, located at the tip of lower Manhattan. Congressional action in 1891 resulted in federal immigration officials recording the immigrants’ arrival. After January 1892, passengers arriving in New York debarked at Ellis Island, located east of Manhattan in the New York Harbor. From 1892 to 1924, almost all immigrants entered the United States through the port of New York.
