About McKimmy's of Michigan & W. V
Please sign in to see more.
The McKimmy Family

Starts with James & Jean (Fraser) McKimmy of: Rathen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland who had at least 7 children. Believe we descend from their son James McKimmy born about 1743? McKimmy`s can trace their Ancestry so-far! Back to a James W. & Mary Elizabeth (Wilt) McKimmy (Granddaughter of: Michael & Susanna ? Wilt) of: Preston County, WV. They had (14) children. James died December 13, 1871 in Alleghany County Maryland. James and Mary are belived to be buried in the Old Maple Springs cemetery, Tucker County, West Virginia. But, (we) don`t have any photo`s proving this! Most of James & Mary children migrated to parts of Ohio then, Michigan. {Around Lenawee & Gladwin Counties}. Note: Surname seems to have been Mispelled/Recorded from: McKinny>McKinney>McKimmey according to Census and other Documents. Though: I have a Sworn Statement by: `Benjamin Franklin McKimmy` on behalf of: Francis M. McKimmy`s Wife Ann(a) Elizabeth Wolfe. Showing, Benjamin stating: The correct spelling of the Surname
is: McKimmy not McKinney etc. Source: Civil War Pension file for Francis McKimmy/Francis McKinney. One filed for Ohio and the other for Michigan.

Francis M. McKimmy, Civil War Pension file. Explains some of the confusion with
the McKimmy Surname. Francis Civil War enlistment papers were typed up wrong with the Surname as: `McKinny` which, he signed in error! He often had {health problems} such as: `Blindness` etc. & was treated as: `Francis McKinney` while in military service. He would often sign his name anyway imaginable: Despite, attempts by his brother`s {Rev. Perry McKimmy & Benjamin Franklin McKimmy} {Sworn Statement`s} before Washington, D.C. The spelling of the Surname was never corrected to this day. Last, I wish to express (my) Thank`s to all! Who have contributed to this Website. Thank You!
