About Ilustre Familias Nicaragüense: Vélez, Rosales, Espinosa, Bermúdez, Solórzano, Avilés, Reñazco, Solís
Los orígenes de los primeros personajes de apellidos Vélez llegados a América, se remontan al primer viaje del Almirante don Cristóbal Colón en el año 1492, según relato del historiador y escribidor don Cesáreo Fernández Duró, conforme documento en el archivo de Indias, inserto en la obra “Colon y los Americanos” del doctor Aníbal Ybarra y Rojas Director del Instituto Indigenista de Nicaragua, al relatarse cuando el Almirante Colon, después de descubrir la isla Española, se vio precisado a dejar treinta y siete personas de los que consigo llevó con el objeto de poblar dicha isla. Entre ellos se encontraba don Alonso Vélez de Mendoza, de Sevilla. Desgraciadamente al regresar posteriormente en uno de sus otros tres viajes que realizó don Cristóbal: “halló que los indios de la isla los habían muerto”.
En Nicaragua, el apellido Vélez se empieza a conocer en la historia, con la llegada al país del hondureño don Miguel Vélez Morazán, quien, según el genealogista don Flavio Rivera Montealegre debe tener algún parentesco con la familia hondureña del General Francisco Morazán.
