This is the family of George WACHTEL from Valley of the Neuce River, Germany and Barbara
BRECKLE from Oßweil, Württemberg, Germany. George came to the USA in 1750 and settled in
Windsor Twp, York Co, Pennsylvania and was a wagon maker, a skill he passed on to his sons.
The Canadochly Union Church Records show his marriage to Barbara and the baptism of their first
child, Johannes; later records show the baptism of their son Henry's first child.
In the same area, Stehli's/Staley's/St Luke's Union Church records show baptisms of the four
youngest children and son GEORGE's first child. These were the only findings to indicate
parent/child relationships. However, suspected son DEWALT was found living next to JOHANNES in
the 1800 census in Salisbury District, Washington Co, Maryland, appearing he had a wife but no
children. No records on son FREDERICK were found until 1810 in Washington Co, Virginia when he
married. Records show son HENRY had been in Augusta Co, Virginia by 1796. In the story
section is a description of a possible daughter (BARBARA) to this family.
All of the Breckle German research was done by Dieter Hils, PhD. The Wachtel research was
done by: son HENRY's line - Judy Goodwin, Dona Robertson, Marcy Paul, Mark Miller, Mary Ruth
Wright; son JACOB's line - Rosalie Sommers, Char Ollinger Waughtel, Sandi Waughtel Angwin,
LaVerne Crews, June Neff Mohini and myself; son FREDERICK's line - Antoinette Waughtel
Sorensen; son JOHANNES' line - Scott Hamilton, Marty Schaller Cavanagh, Bob R. Creager, John
Hose, Ken Clopper and myself. This is still an ongoing project, so more sources and data and
photos will be added.
