Oliver McNabb was born in the Carolinas and was brought to Barbour County, Al, by the Scottish banker John McNabb who was born in Scotland. Oliver was known to have had 4 different families due to being sold 4 times. Oliver's first wife was Mary Glover and they had 3 children: Rachel, Nellie, and Kitty. Later he married Mary Harper and they had the following children: Jim , Robert(my great grandfather), Henry, Missie, Charlotte, Lizzie, Jane, Addie, George, and Jessie. (there are probably some omissions). The following people are descendents of McNabb's: Chucky Atkins NBA basketball, Donovan McNabb NFL, Stevie Wonder, Danny Glover and Bishop Noel Jones twin brother of Grace Jones (but through marriage). Some family members spell their last name with 1-B and some use 2-B's. Some of the slaves wanted to differ from their slave owners so they would drop, add, or spell the name a little different, this also has a lot to do with the fact that they could not read or write, when the census was taken, an example of this would be: Murray, Murry, Murie- McNabb, McNab, MacNab- all in the same family. Mary McNabb Descendants

All my life I always wondered about my father?s family. Before he left this world he told my sister and I stories about our family. Prior to the reunion in Augusta I had never attended a McNabb reunion. My sister Athenia had attended about 3 reunions before we went to one together. She was so excited about meeting other family members other than Cousin James McNabb and his family she volunteered us to have the reunion in Chicago. According to daddy Oliver McNabb was his Great Grandfather and Mary Harper his great grandmother. His grand parents were Rob and Anna-Bowen McNabb. Together they had 9 children Henry, Samuel, Ludie, Lizzie, Oliver, Willie, Robert, Jim and Mary. Mary McNabb- Norton is our grandmother. Whenever she would introduce her self she would say ?My name is Mary like baby Jesus mama name.? That would always make me smile. Our father is Rev. Robert Lee Williams Sr. grandma?s only child. ?Her boy? as she would always call him. Daddy was an only child, but he sure made sure we were not.
