About The Barlow/Wilson Family
When we were growing up we never knew or met dads family the Barlows, we did know that his
Father had died during world war 2. Dad didn't even know who his Grandfather on the Barlow side
was. Whenever we went on holidays to Sydney, we stayed with our Uncle Austin and Aunty Irene or
Uncle Dinty and Aunty Beatty (They were dads mothers family the Sewells) They all lived over in
Brookvale Balmain or Manly area. Other times we stayed with mums relatives Uncle Bill (Wilson) and
Nanna Wilson who had divorced and remarried to Hector Featherstone (Uncle Hec as he was known
to us kids). They lived in Coolah, Merriwa, and Scone, in the upper Hunter.
We also never knew our Grandfather John Bertram Wilson other than he was a returned Prisoner of War
and was in Singapore when it fell. After He and Nanna divorced there was no contact with my mum until
until just before he passed away in 1983.(Us kids never met him).
So the goal is to make sense of the information we have and know who we are and where we came
from. Also understand why our dad was motivated to take his young family out to some of the
most inhospitable and remote places.
