About The Goodrich, Haddix and Newell Families of Ohio
Please sign in to see more.
This is the site of the Goodrich family of Perry County, Ohio, the Newell family of Logan County, Ohio, and the Haddix family of Texas. This is also the site of the Adcock family of Hocking County, Ohio. Lineage of the Ohio families of Fetherolf, McColloch, Neuenschwander, Williams, and Zane is also included.

By marriage, the decendants of William McColloch Newell (my Grandpa Newell's grandpa) were related to the Zanes and to the Williamses. Thus, this generation is distantly related to Zane Grey, the founder of the literary western novel. His grandmother was the sister of our direct ancestor, Isaac Zane, who married the Wyandotte Indian Princess Myeerah, only daughter of the Great Sachem, Chief Tarhe the Crane. Isaac Zane, as interpreter, and Chief Tarhe helped negotiate The Treaty of Greenville in 1795. Another direct ancestor, Samuel Newell, was an early Ohio politician, and represented the USA in The Wyandotte Treaty of 1842. He died in Iowa of cholera in 1843. His father, Rev. Robert Newell of North Ireland came to the American colonies in 1760 with father Hugh O'Neill and siblings, and was a Quaker.

This generation is also distantly related to another Quaker Levi Coffin, Jr., the Grand Master of the Underground Railroad of the 1850's, through the Williams branch of the family. His cousins Asa and Silas Williams were conductors on the Underground Railway. They with Mahlon Pickrell also worked from the 1840's to settle freed blacks in Ohio through connections to North Carolina Quakers, the other branch of the Williams family.

Through a different branch of the Williams family, we are related to Mardo Williams, who wrote a book about his mother Maudella B. Allen Williams, called "Maude (1883 - 1993): She Grew Up with the Country." Forrest Newell, Margaret Williams Newell, William Newell, and Elizabeth Newell Haddix are all mentioned in this book. Forrest Newell, Margaret Williams Newell, William Newell, Ross and Sarah Williams, and some Witcraft ancestors are also included in the cover photo.

My Haddix cousins are related to baseball legend, Harvey "The Kitten" Haddix.

Through my Goodrich ancestors, our family is related to the nobility and royal houses of the British Isles. The Goodrich brothers who came in the early 1600s, spent many years in Connecticut before migrating to Ohio.

This site is dedicated to the memories of my grandmothers Alice Elizabeth Adcock Goodrich (1909-1996), who told me the stories of her childhood growing up on a dairy farm near Logan, Ohio and Lillian LaVerne Williams Newell (1909-1976) who told me the family stories of Ridgeway, Ohio as a child. Lastly, I would also like to acknowledge the many years of help and loving support of my great-aunt, Catharine Elizabeth Newell Haddix (1915-2005), without whom this genealogy simply would not have been possible. She was a guiding light in a dark world, and she truly embodied all the wonderful qualities that continue to be passed on down the generations of the Newell family: Intelligence, good-natured humor, integrity, an appreciation of art and a love of learning. And many thanks to my other relatives and all who contributed to this site. Lastly, a huge thank you to my husband, Erik Rogers, whose support has been invaluable.

I would appreciate any details that can be provided on anyone included in this geneaology. I am also willing to share the information I have. Thank you.
