Hi there,

I have a program with my tree and plus I have you guys. The problem is if I put data on Tree maker, I have to go to Tribal pages and do the same and Vice Versa.

Is it possible to mesh both you and my program so whatever is added to one is also added to the other, Please say yes.

Thank you for a great site. I love it and so does my family as they find it easy to surf the site.

Hi Mike,

I'm in exactly the same situation. My primary tree, and where I do ALL my recording, is Family Tree Maker. This is "synced" with my main on-line tree at Ancestry. On TP I have a subset, being all direct ancestors and their siblings only. This limitation, of course, is expanding as I find new relatives of those already covered. The main reason I maintain the two trees, apart from the ease of use and great presentation of TP is that Ancestry, in their lack of wisdom, do not make person notes available to the casual researcher.

Apart from recreating your tree (and hopefully retaining any image links) via Gedcom, I know of no way you can link TP with any other software. It would be fantastic if it were possible, but can't see it happening.

Regards,

Ian Marr

Hi Ian. as far as I can remember being told ( I do not have FTM )

If you download TP Gecom and add it to your FTM it will mstch both. so you then have one tree.

If I am correct, I would COPY FTM GEDCOM first, then add a COPY of TP to it. This way you would still have both Originals in a FILE on your PC.

Hope this helps

Yes - When I update Tribal Pages, I occasionally copy the new GEDCOM which can then be uploaded to my Family Tree Maker - FTM... FTM then ignores/matches all the profiles it already has and just adds the New Profiles & new information.

My Family Tree Maker is also linked to my Private Ancestry Tree (not the Public ones I use for DNA Matching) and to my Family Search where I have a small Tree also. I often get reminders to Synch the info.

I usually do research in other tabs as I wait for FTM to be fully updated.

This way my Family Tree Maker is the most up to date, but I prefer Tribal Pages by far, for secure sharing and browsing.

Hope that helps Ian & other Members.

You are incredible Les.

You have helped me and countless others over the years.

We are all very very grateful.

So here's wishing you a Healthy, Happy & Prosperous 2018

Kindest regards,

Linda

PS Have you got hooked on the Ancestry DNA & Tree Matching bug yet? Apparently they sold 1.2 Million Ancestry DNA Kits on Black Friday alone... I just can't keep up with all the Matches - we are all hooked... my husband, 2 son's, my 16 year old grand-daughter & my half-sister & a cousin...

It is so exciting - often our joint ancestor is a 4x, 5x, 6x & even 7x grandparent/s - and of course with each DNA verification - we can then proceed with the branches of these blood related ancestors with much more certainty.

I now have a DNA Photo Album on my TP where I am adding Tree Charts that have been DNA Verified & Stories too!

Can't wait to see all my main branches DNA Verified!

SO MANY ANCESTORS.....................SO LITTLE TIME!

Thank you all for your input. I will just have to live with it.

What you are talking about is 'syncing'

Ancestry 'syncs' with FTM because it was their own software for a long time - they recently sold it off. Because of this they had a slightly non-normal gedcom (not 5.5)

My Heritage 'syncs' with their software FTB (family Tree Builder)

Recently Roots Magic can sync with Ancestry and Legacy can sync with My Heritage

However NO standard gedcom carries media links just data.

My solution is to keep my master file in Roots Magic - sync it periodically with Ancestry and after doing that create a gedcom to load to Tribalpages. TP is free for viewers and this makes it my preferred display place. I have gotten hundreds of new contacts over the years because it is free. It is also very good at retaining picture links, even when you load a new gedcom. SO pictures only need to be added once

And both Roots Magic and Legacy will Link with the all-inclusive tree as well as search the Family Search site for records just like shaking leaves on Ancestry.
