Why is "granddaughter" spelled "grandaughter" on this site?

Forgive them. This is an American website. Yanks and Ozies work extremely hard to customise English grammar.

The Chinese are getting the hang of it, too. I received a card, printed in that great country, wishing me A Nappy Xmas. The US company that outsourced the printing contract must have provided, or accepted, that spelling.

Since nicknames are obviously acceptable, let me say that I see a lot of Poms who don't seem to have any idea of spelling, let alone grammar.

I thought that Yanks called them diapers, wheras Poms & Ozies are at one in calling them nappies.
