FORUMS USELESS

Tribal Pages DO NOT HAVE A MODERATOR. Let the FORUMS be open, but as soon as a MEMBER or YOURSELVES see one entry that is AGAINST THE RULES we can bring it to your attention, for you to DELETE.

This way we can converse with each other immediately.

The trouble before was that you took so long to take theses messages off.

SORRY TRIBAL PAGES but it is completely your fault in days gone by

As LINDA has pointed out and my NEAR DEATH a few weeks ago. TIME IS PRECIOUS

Les,

Re: Forum being useless.

I agree with you, BUT, for example, if a member posts an abusive message that is reported by other members, how long will it be before it is deleted. Given the current situation that message would be open to view by all and sundry for several days. It appears that the moderator (?) in Tribalpages now only works one day per week.

Not long ago I did complain (direct to TP and not via Forum) about the wording of a posting and to give Tribalpages their dues, they deleted that message virtually immediately. If they were always that efficient the present system would be adequate as long as all forum messages were processed daily. That is not happening and it makes their business look very amateurish indeed. Any efficient business would see that and rectify a situation which makes them look a laughing stock to the general public and to members, other than those who use forum a lot. However, members who are waiting for a reply and, those who try to help, don't regard it as humorous and find that forum has now become virtually useless and a waste of time. No doubt the time I have spent typing this could have been spent better doing something else.

Anyway on a more positive note, congratulations to you and Pam on reaching your Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Also to Ted for his 92nd birthday. At least we found out that valuable information by reading Forum. Therefore its not quite totally useless.

Thanks Alan for the good wishes.

You have pointed out the main trouble NO QUICK CHECK UP BY TP, although when you got through direct they did do it.

This is my point If they do as I mention we are all in contact immediately WHICH WE WANT, but TP will also have to dor should THEY SEE ITo their part, by removing the offending forum entry, as soon as a MEMBER points it out.OR THEY SEEING IT

Thanks Alan. My 92nd birthday was a fat index finger typo for 91. I aged a year younger overnight?

I think Forum is way beyond a joke. It is not free. We are paying for its maintenance and are entitled to a better service.

3 or 4 years ago never a day passed without a couple, or more, research posts appearing on the Genealogy page. I don't think we have had one in the last week and that is probably because fewer people are accessing Forum. At one time Forum was a great advertising medium for TP but now it is no longer so.

I also believe your immediate response was pure luck and that TP's tardiness has invited the unfortunate aggression shown in some recent postings.

Ted,

Your age reduction was accidental. Many put their age back deliberately. I think you are correct when you say less people are accessing forum. You only have to go back through the messages and look at the names. Majority from a small group.

I don't think its just luck that I mostly received a reply from TP Support when I contacted them direct rather than in forum. I could not be that lucky so often.

Best wishes in advance for your 92nd and many more birthdays.

Alan

Hi Alan, My main concern is to get immediate response to our messages to each other and TS to answer our Queries immediately.

We may never ever get an abusive message again ( DOUBTFUL ) but that is when we as MEMBERS and TS act immediately.

SO LET US HAVE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO OURMESSAGES

Regards

Les

And you don't mind the advertising coming through as well ?. I do agree however that it is more important that the members authentic messages come through more quickly than has been the case. We can put up with some scam and advertising messages. We should all be well and truly used to them by now. We get more than enough in other ways.

Perhaps TP can bring in a system whereby any member who posts a scam or advertising message is banned from posting further messages in forum.

Tribalpages take little notice of what we say in forum so maybe its time for someone to write direct to Tribalpages management and forward a list of names of members who want the system changed. My name can be included.

I have never been able to understand why the Forum is open to the public. Surely, if it were restricted to members, there would be more control over spammers.

On the Genealogy forum page it says "To take part in any forum discussion, you simply have to be a current member of TribalPages.". Whether this is fact or fiction I do not know. In any case anyone can join with a free site and post messages on forum.

I have just happened to notice someone using the Family Tree Circles site to post an advertising message for Norton's Security. Done very nicely. I wonder if that will be deleted. Not only TP where it has happened.
