I'm afraid the answer is NO, but I have to be sure. I have multiple families/trees on my site, and need to have some way to split them up, based on different earliest ancestor. Is it possible to select an ancestor/name in my TribalPages site and get a GEDCOM of that persons (descendant) tree and no others ? I'm trying to correct a bad decision made when my site was first started. Trying to do the split on the receiving end (I use Reunion on my Mac) is a problem also.

Hi Scott I use this a lot but do not know if it will HELP Have a play with it.

I would suggest to find the oldest/earliest Member of one of the ones you are talking about, and see if by using HIM/HER

as commencement whether this then selects all of that FAMILY which you can then use as a separate GEDCOM. If so you should be able to do this on other parts of your ORIGINAL GEDCOM.

Hopefully that I am correct.

Please let me know

All the best

Uh ... ya got me. I 'selected' an ancestor of a small family, but then I couldn't find a way to generate a GEDCOM. other than clicking to do a whole GEDCOM. Is there a secret (or non-obvious) path or mechanism ? Thanks

Scott

If you use Family Tree Maker, you can generate specific Gedcoms. For example - I am arranging a Family Reunion for my half-sister's mother's family & cousins we have found through DNA Matches... To get just her mother's lines from mine I start by going to her mother's profile and Ticking to request her ancestors & descendants; then I go to the top of all of the ancestral lines and Tick on the Descendants of each one... That will generate me a full Gedcom Tree for my half-sister's side of the family.

Hope that helps.

By the way - I am having a lot of Gedcom statistical fun at this website: http://gigatrees.com/blog/gigatrees

I am amazed at the Maps it is producing - Locations for each & every person on your Tree to show where they their family lived. Also - for each & every person - statistics on Names, Longevity, Census information (10 generations) and much much more - It is an amazing application. Only point of concern is that you cannot make your tree private - so I plan to delete mine soon until they sort out privacy on living people - again - you could create a gedcom without living people for this purpose. Gigatrees is Free to a point, but you get a lot more if you pay a one-time fee of $30.

It's worth a try!

I don't use FTM, and my immediate hope/need/plan is to do the split-up directly from TP if possible, rather than downloading the whole magilla from TP then trying to sort it out as a second effort. In the absence of guidance on TP, I'll give another try at experimenting there.

Hi Scott,

I don't think that it is possible to download part of a GedCom here at TP, but if you can find some way that it is - do let us know how.

Kind regards,

Linda
