Hello anyone, I am a month newbie into genealogy and am getting stopped at lots of corners in trying to put my family tree together....the latest is that I am Looking for info on my uncle Charles O. Fitzhugh, born 1925 in Kentucky, census records show his mother, my grandmother, Jane Bush, his father, my grandfather, Stokes Fitzhugh, another census shows he is a lodger/boarder at the Gosney household (not really sure who this is) and then last info shows he died in 1949 with his gravesite and military VA info and lists his parents as Mary and John Young....once again, not sure who these folks are...his gravesite show no personal info.....if anyone has any info it would be appreciated.....

Hi Greti,

From what I'm seeing in records and articles there must have been some type falling out between Charles O. & his father Stokes. He may have run away or was thrown out or removed from the family.

His death record list father as John (no last name) & mother as Mary Young.

==

*Kentucky Death Records

Name Charles O. Fitzhugh

Event Type Death

Event Date 1949

Event Place Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, United States

Event Place (Original) Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky

Gender Male

Father's Name John

Mother's Name Mary Young

I think the reason only "John" is listed for name of father is the assumption his last name was "Fitzhugh" with "Young" being the maiden name for Mary. You appear to have made the assumption John's last name is "Young" same as Mary's. It is not. It appears John's last name is "Holt".

==

On Charles O's obit for 1949 he is listed as the beloved son of Jane Fitzhugh; four sisters and foster mother & father Mr. & Mrs. John J. Holt. So it appears the Holts took him in as a foster child. Also note no mention of his father in the obit even though he didn't die until 1971 in NY.

==

If you look at the United States Headstone Applications for U.S. Military Veterans it was Mrs. Mary Holt who applied for it.
