Good Evening,

Today my question is, how do I find the parents of my great great grand parents. I keep searching by putting in my great grandparents names but nothing is produced. Can someone put me on the right road please.

Thank you

Colleen

How you go about it depends on Where in the World your GGGrandparents were born and aprox. when this may have taken place. For instance was it before or after civil registrations of birth took place.

If it was in the England or Wales part of the UK and before 1837 you will need to search for a baptism in the area they are believed to have lived, which should give, but not always, the first names of the parents and then try to trace a possible marriage of that couple to obtain the mother's maiden name. This information may be available free on line or you may have to pay a subscription to a Family History website. Alternatively you can search the archives of the area probably at a County Records Office.

If after 1837 then search for the birth registration of the person that you know, then purchase a copy of the certificate.

Other countries will vary according to local procedures.

If you post the details that you do have and tell us who and what you are looking for, someone may be able to help you.

It would certainly help if you would provide some details regarding what you already have.
