I would be grateful for any further information about Edward and Mary (including her maiden name) and their parents.
I await your kindly responses with bated breath.

Arlington is a fairly large rural parish about 10 miles NNE of Eastbourne. It Seems that this Edward married a phoebe Crowhurst at Arlington in 1822, whilst this marriage occurred in Eastbourne and looks like yours:
Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Eastbourne, East Sussex, Date: 27 Sep 1824:
Subject: Edward HUGGETT
Spouse: Mary STEPHENS, botp (B)
Extra Information: w: Abraham HART Wm HART
I've found Edward and Mary on the 1851 census, both borne in Eastbourne and aged 48 and 46 respectively. He is a shepherd and she is a laundress, and no children at home.
I did look up the marriage of Eastbourne Edward's parents,
Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Eastbourne, East Sussex, Date: 21 Jun 1792:
Subject: Benjamin HUGATE
Spouse: Hannah COLLINS, botp (B)
Extra Information: w: Harry RICH Thos HART
There only seems to be one baptism for a Mary Stevens in the right time period in Eastbourne:
First names Mary
Surname STEPHENS
Sex d
Baptism Date 12-Jul
Year baptised 1805
Mother first names Grace
Mother surname STEPHENS
There is this marriage for Grace Stephens:
Extract from the Sussex Marriage Index:
Place: Hastings St. Clement, East Sussex, Date: 13 Nov 1808:
Subject: Grace STEPHENS
Spouse: William PAIN
So it is anyone's guess if William Pain is Mary's father.
If you have access to Ancestry, have a look at this tree:

Hope this helps.

If you are doing a lot of Sussex research, I'd recommend joining the Sussex Family History Group, they have transcripts of most parishes for baptisms and burials, and a lot of other stuff as well. Have a look at the link below.
Good hunting.
