My Yorkshire WORTH family were Rope Makers for 200 years.
The first known WORTH (to me) was George WORTH b about 1710
WAKEFIELD Yorks, he married, in 1730, Ellin Batley b.1707
Some of the family moved to CALVERLEY Yorks about 1850.
Many of the WORTH families lived in the surrounding areas of STANNINGLEY, BRAMLEY, FARSLEY, PUDSEY & RODLEY.
The Rope Works moved to the BURLEY MILLS at KIRKSTALL Yorks. It closed sometime in the 1940's
The family were sometime known as the 'BANDY WORTHS'
Band being a colloquial name for rope.
My branch of the WORTH family, Arthur Womersley WORTH, moved to Blackpool Lancashire in the early 1900's. He fought in France in WW1. He was in the York & Lancs Regiment.(sometimes known as the Young and Lovelies!) Durham Light Infantry.
Arthur married Frances MOSS in 1924.
