FOREWORD
In the early part of January, 1985, Lowell Bauhard wrote a letter announcing that he had become a great-grandfather.
A little girl, Allyson Leigh, was born December 27, 1984 to his granddaughter Karen Michelle Ball. Karen is the wife of Gerald Sarnouski and daughter of Shirley Ball, who is the daughter of Lowell and Elaine Bauhard.
I was happy for Lowell and Elaine, and began tracing a family tree for the new baby. I found that not only was she the first of her generation, but that her direct lineage, for seven generations, had all been the first.
Allyson Leigh is Karen's first child. Karen is the first of her generation; Shirley had been the first; Lowell had been the first; his mother, Emma, had been the first; and Detlef Petersen, born July 19, 1853, had been the eldest son Peter Petersen.
Peter, Detlef, Emma, Lowell, Shirley, Karen, Allyson--seven of them. This was exciting new, of an event not likely to happen again for another twenty years.
And when I realized that I had been personally acquainted with five of these generations, it seemed necessary for me to begin compiling a record of them and their families. Today, April 12, 1985, it is complete. Signed "Calla M. Petersen"
